Our bachelor of science in pharmaceutical sciences program pairs a foundational education in basic and applied sciences with real-world learning experiences to provide a strong base to launch you into your pharmacy education. With the skills you gain in our undergraduate program in your first three years, you will be well prepared to enter training to become a pharmacist in our four-year Doctor of Pharmacy program.

This program saves you time, allowing you to complete both degrees one year sooner than a typical bachelor's and Pharm.D. program, and gives you the flexibility to pursue fulfilling careers as a pharmacist and scientist in roles spanning patient care, clinical development, pharmaceutical manufacturing and other exciting roles in the the pharmaceutical and life sciences industries.

Program Overview

Seven-year, full-time in-person program

In our bachelor's program, you will gain the knowledge and skills needed to develop innovative pharmaceutical products that will improve people's quality of life. You will get hands-on training in labs and real-world experience in opportunities on and off campus.

The Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program offers students a well-rounded curriculum to prepare future pharmacists for careers in health care and pharmaceutical industry, with concentrations including digital health, geriatrics and pharmaceutical industry.

Students learn through coursework, hands-on practice and experiential rotations to provide exceptional medication therapy management and patient-centered care. This program focuses on evidence-based practice and team-based care, preparing students to be skilled, compassionate pharmacists who improve patient outcomes and the pharmacy profession.

How to Apply

  • First-year, international and other types of undergraduate applicants: Undergraduate applicants page
  • Current students in B.S. in pharmaceutical sciences program: Submit an accelerated program declaration prior to junior year. This form will be available in fall 2025.
  • In the third year of this accelerated program, students apply to the Pharm.D. program. Accepted students enroll in the Pharm.D. program during their fourth year at VCU.
