UVa Health System’s David Volles awarded 2024 preceptor of the year

The Office of Experiential Education celebrates the winners of the 2024 Preceptor of the Year Award and the Outstanding Preceptor Awards.

VCU School of Pharmacy Dean K.C. Ogbonna, Pharm.D., David Volles, Pharm.D., and Director of OEE Wanda Coffey.
Serving as pharmacy clinical coordinator in the Surgical/Trauma ICU at the UVA Health System, David Volles, Pharm.D., has been awarded the 2024 Preceptor of the Year Award.

Serving as instructors, role models and mentors, the Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPEs) preceptors provide students with ‘real world’ pharmacy practice experience. Nominated by P4 students, these awards celebrate the exceptional contributions of preceptors who meet the following criteria:

  • stimulates active independent and guided learning with constructive feedback
  • demonstrates interest in and enthusiasm for teaching
  • is inspiring and passionate about the profession
  • is accessible to students and organized
  • demonstrates professionalism, leadership and management skills
  • is active in the profession and in professional organizations
  • is an excellent communicator and positive role model with well-developed interpersonal skills

2024 Preceptor of the Year Award

Serving as pharmacy clinical coordinator in the Surgical/Trauma ICU at the UVA Health System, David Volles, Pharm.D., has been awarded the 2024 Preceptor of the Year Award. His dedication and passion for the profession provides invaluable mentorship, fostering an independent, supportive and engaging learning environment for his students.

He has been an excellent communicator and positive role model for me throughout this rotation. He went above and beyond. He not only gave me advice during my residency interview prep but also future life advice as well.
