VCU School of Pharmacy Residency Programs

The VCU School of Pharmacy offers residencies in community pharmacy practice and ambulatory care.

The Community Pharmacy Practice Residency is a 12-month program designed and structured to provide the organized health care practice community and the pharmacy profession with knowledgeable, creative and resourceful practitioners who can provide direct patient care services in a community pharmacy practice environment. It supplements an academic pharmacy education and provides the opportunity and necessary stimulus for graduate pharmacists to develop their knowledge and expertise in the provision of patient care and in development of patient care programs. The program is flexibly designed to accommodate the training needs of Doctor of Pharmacy degree graduates. This residency participates in the ASHP Matching Program.

The VCU School of Pharmacy Ambulatory Care Residency Program consists of two 12-month positions designed and structured to provide broad experiences in clinical care, teaching, scholarship and professional service. The purpose of these programs is to prepare the graduate for the role of an ambulatory care specialist in a faculty position or a clinical pharmacist position with adjunct faculty responsibilities. Learning opportunities focus on developing pharmacy professionals committed to excellence in patient care and developing impactful ambulatory care services. The program provides multiple opportunities to provide patient-centered care in various practice settings including area safety-net free clinics, community-based interprofessional care models, and Virginia Commonwealth University Health Systems specialty clinics. Furthermore, the program has a strong emphasis on teaching and scholarship, partnering with faculty experts in areas designed to meet the residents’ needs. The Ambulatory Care Residency Program provides elective experiences and flexibility meant to foster the resident’s growth and interests. Further program details can be found on the Ambulatory Care residency page and by contacting the respective residency directors.
