Nasibeh Karimi, Ph.D.
Nasibeh Karimi, Ph.D., is a research assistant professor at the Center for Biomarker Research and Precision Medicine (BPM). Karimi obtained her Ph.D. in genetics in 2018, where her research focused on miRNA profiling of serum-derived extracellular vesicles in colorectal cancer patients to identify potential biomarkers. During her Ph.D., she joined Prof. Jan Lötvall’s group at the Krefting Research Centre, University of Gothenburg, Sweden, where she developed a novel protocol for isolating extracellular vesicles from blood, significantly enhancing the purity and usability of these vesicles for research. Following her Ph.D., she continued as a postdoctoral fellow in Prof. Lötvall's lab, where her research focused on the applications of extracellular vesicles as diagnostic tools and advanced biological therapies. From July 2022 to 2024, she worked as a research postdoctoral fellow at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C. Her research there emphasized therapeutic applications, particularly immunotherapy for neuroblastoma, as well as the diagnostic uses of extracellular vesicles in cancer. Since September 2024, Karimi has been working at BPM, where her research focuses on the applications of extracellular vesicles as biomarkers and therapeutic tools for psychiatric and substance use disorders.
