Graduate Student Travel Awards

 

Peter and Sian Byron General SoP Graduate Student Travel Award
Amount of travel award: $500
Deadline: rolling (e.g., submit to the Office at the time your abstract is accepted by for presentation)
Submit to: Ms. Sha-kim Jackson; email: sjackson29@vcu.edu
 
Application materials:
1. Copy of abstract for a scientific conference (poster or oral presentation is accepted by conference) that the student will be the lead author.
2. Memo from primary mentor indicating that the student has the advisor's approval to attend the scientific concert. 
3. Student's CV.
 
Selection criteria
1. The student must be the lead presenter and all application materials described above must be provided.
2. Students must be in their third year or later of study Ph.D. 
3. Students who have not previously received a General Graduate Student Travel Award will be given preference.
 
 
Rector and Rorrer General SoP Graduate Student Travel Award
Amount of travel award: $500
Deadline: rolling (e.g., submit to the Office at the time your abstract is accepted by for presentation)
Submit to: Ms. Sha-kim Jackson; email: sjackson29@vcu.edu
 
Application materials:

2. Senior students will be given preference.
3. Students who have not previously received a General Graduate Student Travel Award will be given preference.
 
Rector and Rorrer Graduate Student Travel Award for F30 or F31 applicants*
Amount of travel award: $1,000
Deadline: rolling (upon proof that NIH will review the application)
Submit to: Ms. Sha-kim Jackson; email: sjackson29@vcu.edu
Application materials:
1. Copy of complete F30 or F31 application.
2. Documentation from NIH that the individual training grant has been reviewed. 
 
Selection criteria
1. All application materials described above must be provided.
2. The F30 or F31 application does not need to be awarded or discussed by the NIH study study, but it MUST be reviewed by the NIH study section
 
*Dual Pharm.D.-Ph.D. students applying for an F30 grant are highly encouraged to apply before beginning the G1 year. Applications for other individual training grants may be considered on a case-by-case basis for a full or partial travel award. The amount of the travel awarded given will be commensurate with level of detail required by the sponsor as well as the potential amount of the award.  This travel award may be used in conjunction with the above General SoP Graduate Student Travel Awards.

Charles T. Rector and Thomas W. Rorrer, Jr. Dean's Award for Excellence in Graduate Study

Mrs. Jacqueline V. Rorrer established this permanent endowment fund in 2001 in memory of her late husband Charles T. Rector and in honor of her current husband Thomas W. Rorrer in recognition of the fiftieth reunion of his graduation from the MCV School of Pharmacy. This award is presented to a School of Pharmacy graduate student who best demonstrates excellence in scholarship, research, teaching and service.

Lowenthal Award

The Werner Lowenthal Award was established in 2000 by Dr. Hilda Meth in memory of her late husband and former faculty member to support graduate students pursuing a PhD. with a specialty in one of the pharmaceutical sciences and who are participating in hands on research in the area of genetically based neurological diseases.

Schwartz Award

Joseph P. Schwartz Graduate Student Travel Fund has been established to support full time graduate student travel for pharmaceutics graduate students presenting research papers , including posters, at professional meetings in the areas of basic pharmaceutics or pharmaceutical technology. This includes pharmaceutical manufacturing, pharmaceutical formulation or dosage design within the scope of pharmaceutics and industrial pharmacy.
